Fully-outdoor program, year-round. Being in nature is healthy. As a member of the Otter Bevy, your child will learn about cooperation, getting along with others, and develop useful skills. The program includes non-competitive games, skills, crafts, and outdoor activities including camping.
Sample activities include nature walks, campfire, hot dot roast, water safety, canoeing, bike skills and riding, how to pitch a tent, making kites, making plaster casts of animal prints, feeding birds, making snow forts, and sledding.
The program is run in small groups called a Lodge. Each Lodge has about 5–8 members. The minimum age is 5 years old. From September to December, children who will turn 5 before the end of December may join.
Meetings are once every two weeks on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. There are occasional longer activities and at least two weekend camps a year. The meetings are entirely outdoors. We meet in different parks and conservation areas around Waterloo Region with easy access the expressway. Your child can attend a couple of times to try it out for no charge.
The adult leaders in Scouting are parents and other community volunteers. Join our team and be part of Scouting as you develop your own skills in the great outdoors. Police record check and screening required.
The annual registration fee is $160. The uniform is $40. Weekend camps are usually $50. New members may join year-round.
